Award Acceptance + Wishing for Spring

magnolia tree

I saw the first Robin of Spring just 3 days ago…well not the “1st” I’m sure, but the first one in our yard. That little bugger gives me hope that both sunshine and warmer weather are right around the corner. The sight of the Robin means the blooming of our magnolia tree [above] will not be far behind!

I mentioned last week that I had received a few award nominations. Interspersed among my duties of award acceptance I offer you some of the beautiful sights around our yard. Alas, these are all from last year. However, I’m determined to believe that I will see all of these “lovelies” again real soon. Please…

Two of the award nominations I received were for the Liebster Award. Jess, from Cooking is my Sport and Lori, from Creating Beauty in the Kitchen.

Jess at Cooking for Sport has a fabulous and entertaining blog all about food. She is a big fan of Scandal [TV show] and did a whole series of posts leading up to the mid-season return. I don’t watch the show, yet I found those posts most entertaining – you can feel her passion. I can’t thank my fellow Michigander enough for the thoughtful nomination! Please check out her site, I bet you’ll find something that you like.

Lori at Creating Beauty in the Kitchen has a beautiful and inspiring site, again all about food. Lori is not new to blogging, but she is new to food blogging. Per a doctor’s suggestion, Lori now eats a low-glycemic diet. Many of her recipes are also gluten free. But let me tell you, that doesn’t mean they’re not good. My oh my, there are a lot of yummy recipes to find. Again, I offer many thanks to Lori for her thoughtful nomination!

The Liebster Award, is awarded to newer blogs. My blog, having recently celebrated 6 months young, falls into that category. There are rules for acceptance.

  1. Thank the person[s] who nominated me
  2. Answer questions given to be by the person[s] who nominated me
  3. Nominate 5-10 people for the award
  4.  Ask about 10-11 questions the nominees have to answer
  5. Comment on the nominee’s blog to let them know they received the award.

I’m hoping I can be forgiven if I take 5 questions from Jess, and 5 from Lori and create one list of questions to answer. This new list of questions will then go on to my nominees.

Why did you start your blog?   Feasting with Friends came to be through the urging of my daughter. I’ve always loved to cook, and this seemed the perfect avenue to share. It also has become a way to “save” recipes for my kids.

Sugar cookie or Chocolate chip cookie?  Hmm…I guess chocolate chip…unless the sugar cookie is frosted!

What is your least favorite household chore?   There are many, however it’s gotta be cleaning the bathroom.

What’s the one food you’re afraid of trying to make?   Six months ago, the answer would have been different, as I’ve conquered some of my fears through this blog. Right now, I’d say chocolate lava cake, but I will do it soon!

Are there any foods that you hate? If so, what?   Well, more like “don’t care for” – I call them the “C -3” – coconut, cilantro and curry. I do eat them, but not often. I’m trying to like them.

Pancakes or Waffles?  Pancakes, but only Swedish Pancakes – the big thin ones!

Do you collect anything?  I collect cookbooks from my travels, they invoke such wonderful memories as I browse through them, and they’re delicious too!

What’s your go-to “rainy-day” movie?   There are three that I rotate through – Moonstruck, The Philadelphia Story and Under the Tuscan Sun.

Extrovert or introvert?   I can lean towards both, depends on the situation. I probably do lead more of an introverted life though.

How do you like your eggs?   Every way – though poached is my favorite.

And my Liebster Award nominees are…

kloesunny @ kloeskitchen

Alicia @ kitchenkonfidential

Shatarupa @ calorielicious

Susan @ susanmariemolloy

skdarvesh @ aromasandflavors

To my nominees, please know that participation in purely optional, no hard feelings or unfollowings on my end! I do not expect any action to be taken, or for you to generate a post [unless you wish to pass on the award nominations]. Promise 🙂 That said, if these lovely bloggers would like to participate with their acceptance of the Liebster Award, here are the questions to answer:

I was also awarded The Sunshine Award from two fabulous bloggers – Jillian at News Anchor to Homemaker and Justine of Eclectic odds n sods.

Jillian at New Anchor to Homemaker has a tag-line on her blog I love – “From deadlines …to diapers and delicious dishes”. Her change of life functions [hence the blog title] has certainly led to a delicious and informative site. Check it out for recipes, entertaining, stories of living life with her Air Force husband [thanks to him for his service!], adorable baby girl, and more. Thank you again Jillian for your sweet nomination!

Last but not least, there is Justine from Eclectic odds n sods. To sum up her blog, I’ll quote her tagline, “Parenting, pet tales, learning difficulties & believe it or not some humour!”. It is an eclectic mix of odds and sods indeed. She shares stories of her boys, a hilarious [sorry Justine] story of her dogs bottom, yes it’s bottom, falling out and the occasional yummy meal. Believe me when I say there is more than “some” humor offered at her lovely blog. Heartfelt thanks to you Justine, for your sweet and naughty [wink, wink] nomination.

When was the last time you smiled at a complete stranger, please elaborate? Yesterday. While at the grocery store. I can’t help myself, if there is eye contact there is a smile:)

Where are you taking your next holiday? Nothing planned…probably a relaxing stay-cation.

You have the choice to live with a gorilla who knows sign language or a dog who sings lullabies, which do you choose? As long as the dog doesn’t constantly sing, I’ll take the dog. I’m sure it smells better than a gorilla.

If you could have just about anything to eat in one day without having to feel guilty, what are the top 5 things that you would eat? Macaroni & cheese, cupcakes, bread, steak and potatoes. [In other words, many carbs!]

What secret could you tell me? If I tell, it would no longer be a secret…shh!

What is your favorite post that you’ve written? Probably the one for Chou Farci. It was my most adventurous day in the kitchen over the last year.

Chocolate or chili? Chocolate all the way.

If you could have only 3 electrical appliances in your house, what would they be and why?  A refrigerator to keep food fresh [I’ll prepare it on the grill], the TV to stay entertained and the water pump to keep water flowing [we have a well].

What is your opinion on selfies? I’ve taken 2 in my life, with Glenn – so is that technically an “usie”?

If you go to a coffee shop, what do you typically buy? Jumbo Cappuccino

And…my nominees for the Sunshine Award are…

Cita @ lovingfoodfashionlife

Trixpin @ mercurialmonds

Ngan @ nganmadeit

Indu @ indusinternationalkitchen

Vanessa @ kitchenfeasts

I have been racked with guilt over the last week for my delay in “taking care of business”. I sincerely apologize for my delinquency! It is by no means a sign of being ungrateful, simply a grateful procrastinator 🙂

Whew, I feel a whole better and a lot less guilty! If you’ve gotten this far, you’ve just read through what is now my longest post ever! Congratulations, and thanks for reading 🙂

      • Thanks Nancy – I will not participate in Fiesta Fridays any more but I still want to continue my blog and work on my weight. I wanted to mention your pictures are just beautiful – I took a picture of a bee last year but nothing like what you took 🙂

        • I’m sure lower calorie/fat food would also be appreciated at Fiesta Friday! You should consider linking up with a recipe every now and then. And thanks for the photo comment ~ I got lucky with the bee snapshot 🙂

    • Thanks…you’re so sweet! As for your award acceptance – Lazy is fine! There is absolutely no rush. You can even skip that part if you want 🙂 No pressure or expectations from me at all! I simply wanted to recognize you and your blog and all the great things you have to offer!

  2. Wow, you go girl! Congrats….4 times! 😉 I am so glad you got these! You are always so sweet and encouraging…I know I feel blessed by you when you hop on over to my blog! Thanks for that! And thanks for your kind words about my blog! Again, you are so sweet! I loved reading your answers….you had me laughing several times! 🙂 I like the “Selfie” that you called an “Usie”! 🙂

  3. Congratulations, amazing, and thank you! I loved reading more about you, and am honoured that you thought of me for the award! I have tended not to pass them on, but I’m not quite sure why … lazy? Forgetful? I am still hugely grateful no matter what happens!
You thoroughly deserve EVERY award you get – yesyoudoyesyoudo 🙂

    • Thank you and your welcome! I’ve been a huge fan of your blog since we met at Fiesta Friday, and this award is just my little way of saying, “I like you :)”. It is yours to do as you choose! Enjoy 🙂

  4. Congrats, Nancy! So well deserved–I have enjoyed coming to Feasting with Friends so much the past couple of months, getting to know you and your cooking style, as well as gawking at your delicious creations. I just made chocolate lava cakes–nothing to fear!–and I don’t care for coconut either. Thanks so much for the nomination and have a lovely day!

    • Thanks Ngan! You always have the sweetest things to say:) Blogging friends like you keep me inspired to keep going at it! And you’re very welcome for the nomination, it speaks volumes in regards to how I feel about your site. I’ll look forward to see what Ngan Makes Next!

  5. Wooo hoo wow well done, you really got that all together. You must have been a busy girl, LOL, I can imagine your thoughts when my nomination came through yesterday you must have been already writing this. Great answers, you made me laugh about the gorilla answer and very practical keeping an electrical item that cooks but not surprising since your a foodie. Grins…thank you for accepting and for your lovely words minus about my dogs bottom, about my blog..hehe…!!!
