Shout-Out Sunday & An Embarrassment of Riches, Part 2

Eeks! Quite a mouthful, title-wise…  In sorting out how to follow the rules of acceptance of the awards I have recently received, An Embarrassment of Riches, Part 1, covered step one. I decided Shout-out Sunday, this post, was the perfect place to continue with the nomination process, step two.

Apparently using the word, Embarrassment, in my title is quite fitting. For I am truly embarrassed that I missed one of the awards in Part 1 of this post. It seems I also received The Versatile Blogger Award from the lovely Ayesha of Cooking with Ayesha! Please accept my apologies, Ayesha. If you drop by Cooking with Ayesha, you’ll find she’s probably cooking something delicious. From a Tres Leches Cake to a Chocolate bowl [yes, a bowl!] to a Braided Chicken Bread. The tagline of her blog is…”Life is foodiful”. Love it! Thank you for your kindness, Ayesha.

Off we go…first a couple of shout-outs! Please don’t judge me based on this little excerpt, but it essentially explains my love of food. This past Friday, at the Fiesta, the thebrookcook, posted a delicious recipe for Stove-Top Pasta and Cheese. I saw that recipe around noon, and by 1:30 I had not only made it, but ate it and did the dishes! All by lonesome…just for me. Now don’t go thinking I ate a family size serving myself, I did reduce the recipe to about 1/4. It was delicious. The only thing I did different was add a few toasted pine nuts and parsley to the breadcrumbs, and I substituted half and half for the heavy cream. Huge thanks go out to the brookcook for providing Friday lunch…perfecto!

stove-top pasta & cheeseRecent weeks have brought many variations of the smoothie to my monitor. I’ve gazed upon delicious recipes from confusedbawarchis, Patty Nguyen, cookingwithauntjuju, simplyvegetarian777, and birgerbird, just to name a few. I apologize if my early onset dementia has forgotten some of the smoothies I viewed lately. 😉 Feel free to drop a link in the comment section if I did. My version was just that, my version. I used bananas, strawberries, blueberries and blackberries; frozen Greek yogurt cubes [yes, I freeze yogurt in ice cube trays purely for smoothie use]; and orange juice. I’m amazed how much a smoothie fills me up, and keeps the snacking at bay for a good chunk of the day. Thanks to all, for the inspiration.berry good smoothie

On to the awards… Part 1, [here] of this post contains a brief synopsis on each blogger who passed the nominations along to me. To all my nominees, as usual, the decision to participate in the award process is yours. Whether you follow the stated rules, or not, is entirely up to you. I do realize many bloggers do not participate in the award process, and I respect that. As I’ve stated before, there will be no hurt feelings on my part if someone chooses not to go forward with the award process.

First up, The Sisterhood of the Bloggers Award and Dragon’s Loyalty nominations from Arl’s World, THANK YOU! They were awarded to me as a pair, and I will pass them along in the same fashion. Facts about me:

  1. I can be impatient…with traffic, with myself, with Glenn… You name it, I can be impatient. I think that’s why I’ve never been successful with cake decorating.
  2. Daniel Craig, Nancy, Hugh JackmanOne of the highlights of my life [beside love, marriage and the baby carriage] was meeting Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig…together, in NYC! Hubba Hubba. 😉
  3. I’m allergic to fragrance, [perfumes, colognes, air fresheners, scented lotions, scented candles, etc] and will break out in hives when exposed.. Itchy, itchy.
  4. My true love of baking began way back in 7th grade French class when I made Profiterole’s for a project. I’m sure it was the oohs and aahs of the recipients that inspired me to bake again and again and…
  5. Our home is decorated with photos from our travels thanks to Glenn’s keen eye from behind the camera. I wish I could train him to “shoot, then eat” when it comes to this blog, as the photos here [mine] are a work in process.
  6. I love red wine. I don’t care if, per the sommelier, it doesn’t go with what I’m eating… I’ll drink it anyways. 😛
  7. Even though my blog is called, feasting with friends, nothing is more important than family. Some families you are born into, some you marry into and others you choose…friends. Yes, friends are family too!

The Beautiful Blogger Award was bestowed upon me from the blog Aromas and Flavours From My Kitchen. THANK YOU! The rules of the award states that I have to pick  7 blogs and write a short description about their work. Now, here are my nominations for this award:

beautiful-blogger-award_thumb_91614174Eclectic odds n sods – Do you know Justine? If not, you really have to meet her. She has a wicked sense of humor, has stretched herself too thin at times [two challenges in one month!], and has many kitchen mis-adventures to share. Long story short, she’s a hoot. I can count on Justine to supply a giggle a day! Whether she’s cooking, writing, painting, mothering or wearing the hat of her many titles, she always has wonderful thoughts to share.

Creating Beauty in the Kitchen – Have you visited Lori recently? Her site is a must stop for me on a daily basis. She’s always cooking up something delicious and has a wonderful story to accompany the food. She’s been on a roll lately with dishes leaning to the sweet side, yet she makes low-glycemic versions of the standards. Check it out, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with her results! Lori is a loyal blogging friend. She seems to have a knack for visiting and commenting just when I need a little boost.

Dinner Daydreams– Time to stop over and visit Alex if you haven’t recently. She has a fantastic blog, all about cooking. She has created many beautiful dishes. Whether she’s resourcing recipes from her mom or perhaps a new cookbook, her results all have one thing in common…yummy! Homemade potato chips was one of recent posts, and my, oh my…they looked delicious! I still am in awe that she hand-cut those little buggers…what a trooper!

The Working Mom Cooks The tagline for her site is : “Work hard, eat well and explore life”. Words to live by. Talk about a delicious array of recipes! From Biscuits and Gravy, to Peanut Butter and Jelly Blondies, to Portuguese Sweet Bread and then a little bit of everything in between. But that’s not all, she also has a whole series of posts on Hawaii. Aahhh, such beautiful photos!

ngan made itI met Ngan at Fiesta Friday a couple of months ago. She also was my co-host at the same party a few weeks back. Her blog is a super collection of recipes, book reviews and other random tidbits of her life. Does anyone remember the “trip” she took us on through the San Francisco Farmer’s Market? The photos were breathtaking! She’s also really letting her witty side shine through in her post titles lately…definitely earning a giggle or two from me.

cookingwithauntjuju – Judi [or Aunt Juju] shares recipes from her family table as well as the occasional post about gardening. She is a fabulous cook and a Master Gardener to boot! Judi’s blog is a wealth of information. Thanks to her, my life is forever changed, thanks to her introducing me to Bacon Salt [insert lip-licking good]. You’ll find the most adorable holiday candy to a Weight Watcher’s friendly recipe and everything in between. And did I mention we live quite close? One of these days, I hope we get to meet in person!

Strictly Delicious–  Here, you’ll meet Lina. Her blog is a delicious one with recipes that are allergy-safe for her. Her tagline is “Living allergy-free as deliciously as I can.” Having many food allergies as well, I can understand what she’s going through. At least chocolate isn’t on her list [or mine]! Recent posts have included a noodle bowl, cupcakes and a delicious martini. She includes such a delicious variety of recipes and there is always something to be excited about!

Lastly, DetoxMama presented me with both The Versatile Blogger Award and The Dragon’s Loyalty Award. And, as mentioned above, I received a second Versatile Blogger Award from Cooking with Ayesha. THANK YOU BOTH! Since I did Dragon’s Loyalty nominations above, this section will be for the Versatile Blogger Award. Both awards require that I share 7 little known facts about myself, pass the awards on to 15 other fellow bloggers, and thank and tag the person who awarded me. Additionally, I must tag and notify my nominees. So here are my facts…my apologies for inducing boredom on the reader’s part!

  1. The day I’m typing this, it is my birthday. Which day? What age?…I’ll never tell. 😉
  2. I almost always have an elastic hair tie on my wrist if it’s not already in my hair. I’m a casual pony-tail type girl and I hate my hair in my face, especially when I’m cooking.
  3. I make my bed {nearly} every morning.
  4. If you give me less than an hour notice that you’ll be showing up at my door, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT open any closet doors!
  5. I prefer jeans over any other apparel in my closet.
  6. I don’t have formal dinner parties, ever. I’ll take outdoor, casual meals any day!
  7. I made Glenn wait 3 days for my “yes” to his proposal. The reason why? That’s a story for another day. 😉

Thanks so much for nominating me for the Versatile Blogger Award – that is so very thoughtful of you and I really appreciate it. I will get to work, spreading the love! 😀

    • Such kind words, Julianna, thank you! You, too, are deserving. I hope the Versatile Blogger is one your “mantle” was missing! Again, congratulations. 😀

  6. Oh my gosh Nancy…wish we were neighbors, you sound like my kind of friend! 🙂 Love your answers and love how you made the stove top pasta and ate it all within 2 hours after seeing the post! That’s funny.

    • Oh, how lovely being neighbors would be…especially, if I could have a bowl of that yogurt/fava bean soup you made!
And yes, reading food blogs is a dangerous activity for me around meal time. 😉

  7. Oh, I didn’t know you nominated me because I didn’t get a pingback for whatever reason. Huh! Well, thank you so much! I was wondering why my stats starting booming for no reason. lol

    • You’re welcome, Noony! No ping back? I spent hours completing and checking links…so frustrating. Hmmh.
If there were a “Thank God she survived a rollover award”…I would have given you that one! 😉

      • You definitely got the URL right but for some reason the notification never popped up on my end. Hmm…

I wonder how many people in the world could be nominees for that particular award? 😉

  8. Hugh Jackman and Mr. Bond? Oh my goodness, I would have probably held on tight and not let go. I love red wine, Italian, and profiteroles (can you make me profiteroles? I asked Johnny but doubtful if he’ll send them. hehe). Happy belated birthday! I hope you had a fabulous day and enjoyed yourself. Thank you also for the nomination, Nancy! I am so humbled to receive it. I will do my best to post an acceptance sometime. I am just so behind on my posting, and feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to “keep up” with blogging. I much prefer reading and writing to everyone and asking them to make me food! 🙂 Have a great week!

    • Ngan, you and your beautiful blog, are very deserving of the award. Congratulations, again! No hurry and no worries to getting a post done! When and if you’re able is more than fine.
Isn’t it fun to discover the kittle things we have in common with our blogger friends? I would love to bring you some profiteroles and share a bottle of red wine. And if I could bring my “friends” Hugh and Dan, all the better. 😉

  9. Wow Nancy! Talk about award season… that is quite the round-up! And well-deserved. Congrats! Thanks so much for thinking of me with The Sisterhood of the Bloggers Award and Dragon’s Loyalty Award! So sweet! I only just got back to blogging after my monetary lapse of disconnect and already I’m being honoured with awards. You have made me feel quite special Nancy! Grazie mille!! xoxo

    • Prego, Lidia! You and your blog are very deserving. 🙂 I’m happy to see you back to posting and “back in the groove”. You were missed! Please don’t let the awards cause any pressure on you (with your recent return), with the “rules” and such. You, of course, are free to choose what you do with them! Enjoy! xxx

  10. Congrats on all of these Nancy! I am super happy for you! Loved reading more about you…and loved seeing the pic of you with Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig. I love that cake would be your food of choice, no matter the time of day! A fellow sweet toother! 😉
Thanks so much for your nomination, and as always, your super kind words! You are great Nancy!

  11. Belated happy birthday, Nancy and thanks for the pingback :). Your smoothie sounds delicious too- they sure are very filling and do perfectly well as a meal too!And look at that- so many awards, congratulations! We ourselves need to sit down and sort out our awards too!

    • Thank you…and you’re most welcome! It feels good to have a clean slate on the award side of things. But whew…that was a lot of typing, Q &A and facts – more information than I think anyone cares to know about me! 😉

  12. Wow!! I don’t know what to say! 🙂 First- Congrats to you- you are LOADED with awards!! 🙂 Next- SO HAPPY that you made and enjoyed the pasta dish- yours looks FABULOUS! GREAT photo. Love the pine nut addition too. AND… THANK YOU so much for the Awards- I am so flattered. REALLY flattered. You’re very welcome for the awards. You, and your blog, are most deserving! I’m so glad FF helped me find your site! Enjoy the awards and display them with pride, if you wish.

I’ll look forward to your next recipe, so I’ll know what my next “spur of the moment” meal is going to be! 🙂

  13. What a nice write-up on my blog Nancy – thanks a bunch – you are too flattering 🙂 Yes, we do need to meet up some time – maybe this summer ? Congrats on all of your awards as you are obviously so appreciated by many fellow bloggers 🙂

  14. Love this, Nancy! I’m drinking a smoothie as I’m reading your post! Only three ingredients today–coconut milk, fresh pineapple, and sesame seeds. I feel like I’m in Hawaii! (Not really, as I’m pretending I don’t have to lesson plan today. 😉 )

  15. oh wow whoopppeee, firstly Happy ~Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to youuuu Happy Birthday to yoouuuuouououou, Happy Birthday to you…You look like a monkey…No I won’t sing that song its the one my kids sing to me on my birthday LOL.
