Goober Ice Cream Cake

August 31, 2016 by Nancy

My earliest memories of going to a movie theater include Goobers. Do you remember Goobers? Goobers and Raisinets? Goobers were always my candy of choice…until I “graduated” to Snow Caps. Others in my family went for the Raisinets. At the time, I just couldn’t understand how someone could eat chocolate covered raisins… Chocolate covered peanuts, I totally got! What’s not to love about that salty and sweet combination? There was even a jingle for the candies that I can remember […]

Red Beans & Rice

August 21, 2016 by Nancy

On a recent Sunday, Glenn and I spent the day cooking… a lot! Actually, the cooking commenced at 11pm the night before… We had Travis coming to dinner on Sunday and he was bringing a childhood friend with him who had been living out in Oregon for the last year. This friend is an enthusiastic eater and had been a guest at our table more times than I could count over 2 decades. His return to Michigan meant we were […]

An Olympic Lunch: Salpicao {Brazilian Chicken Salad}

August 12, 2016 by Nancy

It seems we’re mid-way through the Olympics. Are you watching? Are you cheering on your home country? I’ve been watching a bit of the games, here and there. I find it a bit frustrating to watch, and get excited, when I already know the outcome. {Thank you push notifications and social media… insert eye roll.} As for the events that are shown live… some of them are on way to late for this aging lady. Lol. Glenn is into the […]

Milk Bar Confetti Cookies

August 7, 2016 by Nancy

Today I bring you Confetti Cookies. These cookies are what the cookie monsters in my house call perfection! My son, Travis, has befitted the title of “Best Sprinkle Cookies Ever” upon them. Yes…they’re THAT good. Are you familiar with the Milk Bar stores? The shops of all things sweet and the sister bakery of the Momofuku restaurants… I finally made my first visit to the Milk Bar back in May, to the Washington DC location… and OMG! What a treat! […]

Buttermilk Biscuits

August 5, 2016 by Nancy

A mere two hours after my Raspberry Jam Duo post published, I received a “Happy Anniversary” message from WordPress. It seems it is the 3rd Blogiversary of feastingwithfriendsblog.com … Yay me! In 3 years time, I posted 251 recipes. This post marks post #252… not too bad considering I’ve had a couple of lapses in posting. In the early days of this blog, I posted 5-7 recipes a week. These days, I’m posting about once every 1-2 weeks. So I thought, in honor […]

Raspberry Jam Duo

July 31, 2016 by Nancy

I think it was about 5 years ago that we planted raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. The blueberries didn’t even survive after year one. Deer, maybe? The raspberry and blackberry bushes on the other hand, have thrived. Each year they have produced more fruit than previous years. My favorite, the golden raspberry plant, produced plenty of fruit for munching in previous years… but not more beyond that. Until this year… until the extreme heat of 2016. Hello golden delicious beauties! Our […]

Michigan Monday: Traverse City Cherry BBQ Sauce

July 25, 2016 by Nancy

The state of Michigan has many good things going for it… the Great Lakes, the 2 peninsulas, the auto industry, Motown… but one of the things it’s most famous for is cherries. The shore of Lake Michigan is lined with cherry orchards. Michigan’s cherry production is over 250 million pounds and accounts for approximately 75% of the tart cherries and 20% of the sweet cherries grown in the United States each year. Not too shabby! Here are a few cherry facts to contemplate… There are about 7,000 […]

Frozen Terrine

July 21, 2016 by Nancy

Today I’m sharing one of the easiest summertime desserts you can make… a frozen terrine. I’ve been making variations of this dessert since I first saw this idea on delish.com 5 years ago and it’s been a summer staple ever since. When I think I’m bored with the concept, all I do is switch up the flavors or variety of frozen treat. Ice cream… fro-yo… sorbet… sherbet… gelato… they ALL work great! Fruity… chocolatey… nutty… there is NO wrong combination. […]

Spicy Shrimp Tacos

June 30, 2016 by Nancy

Why is it that the things you “want” to do are the last things you “get” to do? Why do we let our passions take the back seat? For me, as of late, it happens time and time again. Now… if my “passions” were cleaning house or pulling weeds or parked in front of the computer for work… my passions would be coming first. Unfortunately that’s not the case. But I’m determined to carve out time to do the things […]

Asparagus Topped with Poached Eggs & Pancetta

June 1, 2016 by Nancy

Sometimes the best things to eat happen to be the easiest to make. Like this meal…one of my absolute favorites. Roasted asparagus…poached eggs… crispy pancetta… a drizzle of hollandaise sauce… Perfection! Omit the pancetta and you have a vegetarian meal. Great for a meatless Monday (or any day) meal. Asparagus season is in full bloom in Michigan. It’s the height of the season and asparagus will be available at the local farms for another 2 weeks or so. Just enough time […]
